You know you have a good solid sport clothing brand when its shirts, jackets, and other pieces get everyday use among the general public.
The problem is, though, all of those cool bells and whistles manufactures included on their clothing don’t get put to good use, or, are simply ignored because the wearer doesn’t understand what they’re for. And that’s OK! Because fact of the matter is, even if they knew what it was for, they still might not have any need for it.
Case in point, Columbia shirts!
What exactly is that velcro strap for?
The velcro straps on Columbia shirts are called rod holders, and are intended to hold fishing rods. This rod holder can also be used as a utility loop for one to to hang glasses, line clippers, or any other tool or item. the ultimate benefit to the wearer is to free up their hands for other tasks, while keeping their rod or items within arm’s length.
In the shirt pictured above, you can see the rod holder located above the shirt’s left breast pocket.
That said, some shirts also come equipped with rod holders and eyeglass loops, as you can see here. Again, there isn’t any rule as to what these straps and loops can be used for, with both giving you options to free up your hands and not lose track of precious items.
It’s also good to know that some Columbia fishing shirt have UPF, which stands for Ultraviolet Protection Factor. Where most people are aware of SPF in their sun screen, UPF was created specifically as a fabric measurement.
